I’d like to highlight what we’re going to do here. But, before I do, I want to make a few points clear. You might wonder why this blog exists. Let me explain. First, there are some hard truths nobody wants to admit when talking about dieting and working out.

  1. There are people who eat more than you, move less than you, and weight less than you.
  2. There are people that can continue to live a relatively normal life and maintain a normal weight.

For myself, I am neither of those people. I weight 265lb as of this morning. I’m a 6 foot male, 34 years old. I have high blood pressure and I’ve been fat since I’ve been 22. I can’t seem to kick it. For reference, I used to train BJJ 4 times a week! I used to run 3-4 miles a day after I quit BJJ. Now, I don’t even workout. And guess what my weight is exactly the same. What gives?

I’ll tell you what gives. There’s certain people, like myself that simply don’t get the same breaks as others. My body, working out or not, doesn’t get to have a beer and burger with friends. It doesn’t get to eat normally like others. Why? I don’t fucking know why. You think most people at a healthy weight are working out 4-5 times a week and eating 1500-1700 calories per day? Fuck no. It's a complex mix. Some people work out, others don't. There's a spectrum.

Enter my cousin, 170lb, eats fast food every fucking day, doesn’t workout. Never gains weight. Ah so see, if this person exists there must be a spectrum yes? It’s not an on and off switch. You might say, but that's one person! Sure. But what about the rest of us? Do we all just immediately fall into the camp of normalcy while that person is the outlier?

Now, you can say well the science says this and the science says that. Yes. I agree. But there are factors that can easily sway results by 5-20%. At least that’s my theory. Why is it that we accept “getting older” as a reason to gain weight and blame our metabolism but when it comes to losing weight everyone must scream 1lb is 3500 calories!

This is kind of the whole point of this blog. Some people, like myself, just need to suffer more than others when it comes to diet and exercise. If this is you, and you're over the age of 25 (meaning you've lived long enough to reflect), you know whether you fall into this camp or not.

Okay, so let’s say you think I’m half full of shit and half of me has a point. What do we have to do?

Suffer.
